Figure 1. Bearish Tasuki Line pattern.

Japanese name: tasuki
Forecast: bearish reversal
Trend prior to the pattern: uptrend
Opposite pattern: Bullish Tasuki Line
See also: Upside Tasuki Gap, Upside Gap Three Methods

Construction:

  • First candle
    • a candle in an uptrend
    • white body
    • the low price below the prior high price
    • appears on as a long line
  • Second candle
    • black body
    • the opening price below or equal to the previous closing price
    • the closing price below the previous opening price
    • appears on as a long line

The Bearish Tasuki Line is a two-line bearish reversal pattern, belonging to the tasuki patterns family.

The first line of the pattern is a white candle appearing as a long line. The second line also appears as a long line, but the candle is of black color. The length of the shadows does not matter; however, the volume (if available on the given market) of the second line is significant. Relation of the bodies is unimportant.

The pattern requires confirmation, that is, breaking out of the nearest resistance zone or trendline.

The Bearish Tasuki Line may appear as a second and third candle of such patterns as the Upside Tasuki Gap or the Upside Gap Three Methods. Since these patterns are bullish, we deal with so-called conflicting lines, i.e. opposite patterns occurring at the same time.

Figure 2.

Figure 2. A Bearish Tasuki Line is not confirmed, i.e. the price cannot break out of a support area. The market tries to move prices up, but a Black Candle forms a resistance area. The bulls are climbing slowly step by step, but then suddenly a Long Black Candle appears. Pay attention that the Long Black Candle was opened with a high gap. It closed very low, and a Bearish Engulfing pattern is formed.

Figure 3.

Figure 3. A Bearish Tasuki Line is followed by a candle opening much lower. Price moves sideways for several days because a price gap formed by a Rising Window, which appeared prior the Bearish Tasuki Line, acts as a support area. The bulls, however, also struggle with a resistance zone formed by the second line of the Bearish Tasuki Line pattern. Then a Falling Window appears, which confirms the bearish reversal mood initiated by the Bearish Tasuki Line.
