Figure 1. Bullish Tri-Star pattern.

Figure 1. Bullish Tri-Star pattern.

Japanese name: santen boshi
Forecast: bullish reversal
Trend prior to the pattern: downtrend
Opposite pattern: Bearish Tri-Star

Construction:

  • First candle
    • a doji candle in a downtrend
  • Second candle
    • a doji candle
    • a body below the prior body
  • Third candle
    • a doji candle
    • a body above the prior body

The Bullish Tri-Star pattern is a three-line bullish reversal pattern which all three lines are doji candles (any doji candle, except the Four-Price Doji).

The middle doji (second line) is below the others. The shadows do not matter.

The pattern needs to be confirmed on the following candles, that is the nearest resistance zone or a trendline has to be broken. The market context, in which the pattern appears, is crucial.

Nison first introduced the Bullish Tri-Star pattern. It appears very rarely on the candlestick charts and, therefore, is not very useful on a daily basis.

Figure 2.

Figure 2. The Bullish Tri-Star may seem somewhat strange because three doji candles are supposed to work as a bullish reversal pattern.
The first Long Black Candle (acting also as a Bearish Strong Line pattern) is preceded by a moderate downtrend. It is followed by yet another Bearish Strong Line confirmed by a high trading volume, additionally forming a Falling Window pattern. The bears destroy the bulls, and a very strong resistance zone is created.
In such market context a Bullish Tri-Star pattern appears. All its three doji candles are formed within the Bearish Strong Line pattern. The bulls have a strong resistance area above them and price move sideways.
Because the Bullish Tri-Star pattern is very rare it is difficult to calculate a reliable performance statistics.
